 Sugar Scoop: Sippin' into Summer

Hey Sugars!

A huge shoutout to every Sugar who joined us at one of our Summer Pop-Up Teas! ☀️□ Every conversation is helping grow the Village and we couldn't do it without YOU.

One of our favorite Pop-Up activities has been asking each Sugar to draw herself and write down two goals and two fears. Then we ask one simple question:

Are your daily choices moving you closer to your goals... or closer to your fears?

✨ This Week's Sugar Challenge: Grab a piece of paper and try it yourself!

  • Draw yourself.
  • Write down 2 goals.
  • Write down 2 fears.
  • Then ask yourself: What one choice can I make this week that moves me one step closer to my goals?

Think about it. □

Drawing by Red. We met Red at the UDC Green Zone summer Pop Up!

Next time you're walking around DC... look up. □□

You'd be surprised how much amazing art is hiding in plain sight. Murals are everywhere, and each one has its own story.

✨ Curious? Check out this mural map:

SIP 1: My Sugar, McKenzie...

We learn just as much from our Sugars as they learn from us. Meet McKenzie. □ She shared that she's inspired by people who are successful outcasts .

Why?

because it proves to her that there's someone out there like her changing the world while being themselves.

Think about it...

Who influences you the most, and what is it about them that impacts your choices?

Summer isn't just about making money, it's about building your future.

Whether you're working an SYEP job or just hanging out with friends, make time to learn something new.

□ Auntea Shelly says:

"Your past choices lead to your present circumstances, and your current choices lead to your future lifestyle."

✨ Next Move: DCPS offers free summer learning opportunities for high school students. Whether you want to build new skills, explore your interests, or get ahead for next year, there's something for you. Visit: dcpsstrong.com/summer

T3 happens in person every other Saturday at 10:00 AM! □

If you're reading this early enough on July 18, come sip some tea with us today! If not, don't worry, there's always another Teen Tea Talk around the corner.

Want an invite?

□ [email protected]

□(202) 629-9261

Come join the TEA party!

Okay, Sugar... did you peep our updated IG feed? □ We've been brewing something special.

Follow @AskYourAuntea on Instagram and TikTok for more TEA from the village.

Got a question? We're listening. □

And remember, you don't have to figure everything out by yourself.

If you need help, find a trusted adult and ask. If they don't have the answer, ask someone else. Keep asking until you find the help you deserve.

Not a lecture... just a sip of tea. ☕

Until next time, Sugar...

It's July 4th. What's brewing, Sugar?

What's brewing this week

Happy Fourth of July! □□✨

I hope you're having the BEST summer so far: sleeping in, catching up with your girls, hitting cookouts, and making memories.

So... y'all know I love a random rabbit hole. □ Since it's the Fourth, I looked up why we celebrate it and ended up reading a speech by Frederick Douglass from 1852. Let's just say... it gave me a whole new perspective on what freedom really means. If you've got a few minutes, it's definitely worth checking out. CLICK HERE.

Now grab your tea... it's time for this week's Sugar Scoop. ☕□ ✨

THANK YOU to all the girlies who joined last Saturday's T3 session!□

We had a powerful conversation about knowing your worth and being intentional about who or what influences your life.

One question had everyone thinking:

"Do you believe what they said about you?"

People will always have opinions, but you don't have to let someone else's words define who you are. Your value isn't determined by likes, followers, or someone else's expectations.

□ Missed the conversation?

Watch the Instagram Reel and listen to the full episode on Spotify!

Summer is officially here...which means...

□ Pool Season:

  • Looking for somewhere to cool off with your friends?

Most DC pools are FREE for DC residents with:

✔️ A DPR account

✔️ Proof of DC residency

Nonresident day passes are just $4 for youth and $7 for adults.

CLICK HERE to find a pool near you, check hours, and create your DPR account.

□ Summer TEA Pop Ups

  • This summer, Ask Your Auntea is popping up all over DC! We'll be visiting summer programs, meeting new Sugars, testing fun ideas, and collecting YOUR questions. If you see us around the city, come say hi!

SIP 1: My Sugar, Treasure...

shared that she keeps Malala Yousafzai on her phone's lock screen.

Why?

Because every time she unlocks her phone, she's reminded to stay focused on the future she's working toward.

Think about it...

Who's influencing you every time you pick up your phone?

SIP 2:  My Sugar, Farrah...

shared a confidence strategy she uses whenever negative thoughts start creeping in.

She replaces negative self-talk with what she calls an "antidote thought."

Instead of thinking, "I'm probably going to mess this up."

Try telling yourself, "I'm prepared, and I'm going to do my best."

The way you speak to yourself shapes the way you see yourself.

Whether you're dreaming about college, an HBCU, beauty school, trade school, the military, starting a business, or something completely unique, it's never too early to start planning your next move.

This week's tip from Auntea Shelly:

□Free money alert!

If you're a DC student going to college, DCTAG might help cover your tuition - up to $10,000 a year at public colleges or $2,500 at eligible private schools and HBCUs.

The only catch? If you're already getting in-state tuition, DCTAG doesn't apply.

CLICK HERE for more. Your future self will thank you.

We're taking a short break to celebrate July 4th! ☀️

Our next T3 session is: Friday, July 18, at 10:00 AM.

Save the date! We'll see you soon!

Follow @AskYourAuntea on Instagram and TikTok for more TEA from the village.

✨ And all the latest tea from the Village.

Got a question? We're listening. □

Send us a DM, email us, or submit your question anonymously. Your question could be featured in a future T3 session, podcast, or newsletter.

Until next time, Sugar...

Protect your peace. Know your worth.

And don't let anybody else tell you who you are.
